COMPUTATIONAL CELL BIOLOGY COURSE (COLD SPRING HARBOR LABORATORY, USA, from Jul 24, 2012 to Aug 13, 2012)
Application Deadline: April 15, 2012 The three week course in Computational Cell Biology will incorporate a series of didactic lectures on the mathematics of dynamical systems, computational simulation techniques, cell biology and molecular biology. Practicing theoreticians and experimentalists will rotate in for 1-3 day visits during the course to give lectures and interact with the students. Midway through the course, students will select an area for independent study, and the focus of the last week of the course will largely be on these projects, supplemented by continued visiting lecturers.

IV International Conference on Environmental, Industrial and Applied Microbiology (BioMicroWorld2011) (Torremolinos-Malaga (Spain), from Sep 14, 2011 to Sep 16, 2011)
The BioMicroWorld2011 Conference will be a multi-disciplinary forum that will bring together active researches involved in environmental, industrial and applied microbiology with the aim of communicating current research priorities and progress in the field, and identifying new approaches and research opportunities in applied microbiology. BioMicroWorld2011 consolidates a series of conferences, whose last edition, held in Lisbon (Portugal) in 2009, received about 1000 abstracts to be considered for presentation and attracted more than 600 researchers from nearly 60 countries.

Modelling and Microbiology (e-Science Institute, 15 South College Street, Edinburgh, from Jul 04, 2011 to Jul 07, 2011)
The potential contribution that computational and theoretical modelling can make to our understanding of biological systems is enormous. This meeting will highlight recent advances in modelling microbiological systems. As well as their well-known potential for causing disease, microbes are crucial for the functioning of the Earth's biogeochemical cycles and are essential for many industrial processes such as fermentation and waste water treatment. Microbes are also an ideal starting point for understanding how biological processes work in higher organisms, populations and ecosystems. During 2010-2011, our e-science institute-funded theme ’Modelling and Microbiology’ has explored the potential for productive interactions between modellers and microbiologists in the key areas of stochasticity in microbial infection, microbial evolution and microbial metabolism. This meeting will bring together these themes and suggest future directions.
