As many of you may have already noticed, we have now posted the most current schedule of the ICSB on the conference homepage. Besides an overview on the conference program, you will also find a more detailed schedule presenting details on honorary talks, plenary sessions and the timetable of the 20 different parallel sessions.

The speakers of the parallel sessions will be announced at the end of June.

    3. Jim Simons will join the ICSB2011

We proudly announce that another high-ranking speaker has joined the conference. To our great pleasure James H. Simons, secretary and treasurer of The Simons Foundation has accepted the invitation of Prof. Eils to join the conference and make it even more valuable and interesting for our guests. Dr. Simons is Chairman and CEO of Renaissance Technologies LLC. Prior to his financial career, Dr. Simons served as chairman of the Mathematics Department at S.U.N.Y. Stony Brook, taught mathematics at M.I.T. and Harvard University, and was a cryptanalyst at the Institute of Defense Analyses in Princeton, N.J. Dr. Simons' scientific work was in the area of geometry and topology, and his most influential work involved the discovery and application of certain measurements, now called Chern-Simons Invariants, which have had wide use, particularly in theoretical physics. James Simons holds a B.S. from M.I.T., a Ph.D. from U.C. Berkeley, and won the American Mathematical Society's Veblen Prize for his work in geometry in 1975. He is a former Chairman of the Stony Brook Foundation and is currently a trustee of Brookhaven National Laboratory, Rockefeller University, M.I.T., the Mathematical Science Research Institute in Berkeley, and the Institute for Advanced Study (source: Simons Foundation). Dr. Simons will give a talk on Monday, August 29, 2011.

    4. Workshop and Tutorials

ICSB 2011 will offer you a total of 33 workshops and tutorials accompanying the conference. You will find detailed information on each workshop by clicking at the titles of the workshops and tutorials on the conference homepage, the current schedule is available here.
All events will take place prior and after the conference either at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) or Heidelberg University’s BioQuant Center. Both venues are located on the Heidelberg life science campus at the Neuenheimer Feld in Heidelberg. Bus transportation from Heidelberg to Mannheim and vice versa will be available on Sunday and Thursday. Workshops and tutorials can be booked for a small fee during regular conference registration. If you have already registered and would like to book an additional workshop/tutorial, please send a short mail to isabel.peter@mcon-mannheim.de. Please note that you can join the workshops and tutorials without a registration to the conference.

    5. Industry Presentations

In addition to the non-commercial workshops and tutorials, we proudly announce that we will have two industry presentations during the conference. First, we will have a presentation session on Monday evening by Raytest Isotopenmessgeräte GmbH exclusively presenting the ImageStream Cell Analysis System from Amnis. “The system is a next generation instrument that combines the power of microscopy and flow cytometry in a single platform to advance applications in biology, biochemistry, drug discovery, basic biomedical research and diagnostics” (Source: Raytest GmbH).

Moreover, the Nature Publishing Group will present a highly informative and interesting tutorial on the topic: “How to get published” on Wednesday afternoon.
